Carbon Literacy

Carbon Literacy is defined as “an awareness of the greenhouse gas costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions on an individual, community and organisational basis”. The Carbon Literacy Project, an independent not-for-profit organisation, sets the standard, and has accredited tens of thousands of learners from thousands of organisations as being Carbon Literate. The Duchy of Cornwall is fully committed to our staff gaining this accreditation.

Carbon Literacy is one of the key initiatives in our Net Zero Carbon Programme. Carbon Literacy will ensure everyone, no matter what job they do at the Duchy, can contribute to our net zero goal. Every action and decision taken by every member of staff can have an impact, so we have equipped our people with the knowledge and enthusiasm to put climate action in their jobs, every day.

The Duchy contracted 600 strategy Ltd, a registered provider of Carbon Literacy training, to develop and deliver a bespoke full day course for all our office-based staff, as well as a shorter briefing session for our operational teams and non-executive members of staff.
