The Duke of Cornwall meets the Lyne family of Menadews Farm, Truro.
The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall made their annual visit to the South West of England from Wednesday 19th to Friday 21st July, 2017. Their Royal Highnesses carried out 13 engagements over three days and met hundreds of people from across Devon and Cornwall as they celebrated the work of local charities, businesses and community groups. The Prince also undertook a number of private visits to Duchy farming tenants and view community developments. The public programme also included a number of highlights featuring the Duchy of Cornwall.

In Truro, Their Royal Highnesses sampled some of the region's best food and drink at Great Cornish Food, an independent retailer specialising in local produce. The store was set up within Truro's new Waitrose supermarket as part of a unique collaboration with the Duchy of Cornwall, which owns the site.

Since opening a year ago, Great Cornish Food has won multiple awards, including being voted Best Independent Food Retailer in the South West by the readers of Food Magazine. Their Royal Highnesses met staff and supporters of the new store and The Duke surprised shoppers when he explored the aisles of Waitrose before he and The Duchess unveiled a plaque to commemorate the visit.
In Cheriton Bishop, The Prince of Wales spent time with members of The Devon Young Farmers Club at their new 'hub' building. Funded in part by The Prince's Countryside Fund, the building will provide a meeting place and office space for the network of 38 Young Famers Clubs which operate across the county. His Royal Highness heard first-hand how the network gives young people in the countryside a chance to meet new people, learn new skills, help the community and take part in an array of competitions. The Prince witnessed some of the results as members of The Devon Young Farmers Club demonstrated activities ranging from sheep shearing and health and safety training to cheerleading and flower arranging.
The Prince of Wales meets military personnel training on Dartmoor
On Dartmoor, The Prince learned more about the Duchy's work with the Ministry of Defence and local stakeholders to facilitate military training whilst protecting the park's landscape and wildlife. After hearing from The Dartmoor Steering Group at Okehampton Camp, The Prince went out onto the hills to speak to soldiers taking part in training exercises, and the land clearers who still use horses to clear livestock prior to military activity taking place.
On the final day of the visit, Their Royal Highnesses were at Tregunnel Hill in Newquay to award prizes to the winners of a hanging basket competition and attend a 'Big Lunch' in honour of The Duchess's birthday earlier in the week.
The Duchy of Cornwall has announced that Will Bax will take over from Alastair Martin as Secretary and Keeper of the Records at the Duchy of Cornwall when he steps down from the role in Autumn 2024.
