- HRH The Duke of Cornwall visited the Isles of Scilly as part of a two-day visit to the South West.
- The Duke of Cornwall arrived on the Isles of Scilly for a day of engagements focused on essential services, community resilience, and sustainable development across the islands.
The visit began at St Mary’s Harbour, where The Duke was able to take the helm of the Duchy’s new pilot boat 'John Guy', named in memory of John Guy Morley, a proud Scillonian and long-term Duchy colleague who worked at St Mary’s Harbour. The new vessel will be used to keep waters safe, by transporting maritime pilots between the shore and inbound or outbound ships.
Following this, The Duke visited St Mary’s Hospital to officially open the new extension to the facility. The project, led by the local community, has been directly supported by The Duke through the provision of Duchy land for its construction.
The extension represents a significant step in strengthening healthcare provision for the Isles of Scilly, recognising the unique challenges of delivering medical services in a remote island setting. During the visit, The Duke met staff and spoke with patients about the impact of the expanded facilities.
The Duke then visited the Duchy's Telegraph housing project, which are the Duchy's first homes being built on the islands in over 20 years. The 10 sustainable homes are intended for those who live or work on the Isles, forming part of a wider effort to support a sustainable, year round community and ensure that key services can continue to operate effectively.
During the visit, The Duke met contractors and members of the Duchy trades team, who play a key role in delivering essential services and maintaining infrastructure across the islands.
The visit concluded with The Duke planting a replacement shelterbelt tree damaged by Storm Goretti and meeting with emergency responders. The gesture recognised the community’s ongoing recovery efforts following the January 2026 storm. It also reflected earlier support from the Duchy, including the deployment of additional building surveyors and forestry specialists, alongside maintaining close communication with the Duchy team in the aftermath of the storm.
